A plural teeth is a hard, calcified structure found in the jaws (or mouths) of many vertebrates and used to break down food. Some animals, particularly carnivores, also use teeth for hunting or for defensive purposes. The roots of teeth are covered by gums.

A tool resembling a thumb tack that is used to grab the pulp and remove it from the tooth. A Barbed broach is an instrument used to remove pulp tissue during endodontic (root canal) treatment. It is manufactured from round wires, and the smooth surface is notched to form barbs. There are smooth broaches too available, which act as pathfinders into the root canal. This dentistry article is a stub. To use a Schwed Antaeos Broach first establish the canal pathway using a file or reamer of the appropriate diameter. Then use a broach small enough so that it will not bind the canal as it is inserted to the apex. Rotate the broach one full turn clockwise engaging the pulp on the barbs so that it may be extirpated.

Pulp necrosis is a clinical diagnostic category indicating the death of cells and tissues in the pulp chamber of a tooth with or without bacterial invasion. It is often the end result of many cases of dental trauma, caries and irreversible pulpitis. In the initial stage of the infection, the pulp chamber is partially necrosed for a period of time and if left untreated, the area of cell death expands until the entire pulp necroses. The most common clinical signs present in a tooth with a necrosed pulp would be a grey discoloration of the crown and/or periapical radiolucency. This altered translucency in the tooth is due to disruption and cutting off of the apical neurovascular blood supply. Sequelae of a necrotic pulp include acute apical periodontitis, dental abscess or radicular cyst and discolouration of the tooth. Tests for a necrotic pulp include: vitality testing using a thermal test or an electric pulp tester. Discolouration may be visually obvious, or more subtle.

Intracanal medicaments have been used to disinfect root canals between appointments and reduce interappointment pain. In dentistry, chelating agents bind with calcium and carry it out of the canal. The chelating agent most used in endodontics is EDTA. The smear layer, which covers the dentinal tubules, is created during the instrumentation procedure and is composed of dentin, liquid from the irrigants, and tissue debris.

Protruding lower jaw is corrected in a procedure called mandibular setback surgery. The tooth-bearing portion of the lower jaw is separated from its base and moved backward for proper alignment. In a similar way, receding lower jaw, or “weak chin”, is corrected with mandibular ADVANCEMENT surgery. A mandibulectomy is a surgery to remove all or part of your jaw (mandible). You may have a mandibulectomy if you have a tumor involving your jaw. Your jaw may be rebuilt using bone from another part of your body (the donor site). Some possible treatment options include: Orthodontic therapy to realign your teeth with braces. Wearing occlusal or bite appliances to try to relax the muscles and joint so you can reestablish your bite at the right levels. Special surgery to cut the jaws and realign them back into place.

The possible cell sources for pulp regeneration through cell homing include dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), stem cells from apical papilla (SCAP), and bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs), and others. Therefore, DPSCs residual in the canal might contribute to pulp regeneration in immature teeth. Regenerative endodontics is the use of biologically based procedures designed to replace damaged tooth structures such as dentin, root structures and cells of the pulp-dentin complete. Regenerative endodontics is the extension of root canal therapy. Conventional root canal therapy cleans and fills the pulp chamber with biologically inert material after destruction of the pulp due to dental caries, congenital deformity or trauma. Regenerative endodontics instead seeks to replace live tissue in the pulp chamber. To replace live tissue, either the existing cells of the body are stimulated to regrow the tissue native to the area or bioactive substances inserted in the pulp chamber.

Dental anatomy is a field of anatomy dedicated to the study of human tooth structures. The development, appearance, and classification of teeth fall within its purview. Tooth formation begins before birth, and the teeth’s eventual morphology is dictated during this time. Dental anatomy is also a taxonomical science: it is concerned with the naming of teeth and the structures of which they are made, this information serving a practical purpose in dental treatment. Tooth development is the complex process by which teeth form from embryonic cells, grow, and erupt into the mouth. Although many diverse species have teeth, non-human tooth development is largely the same as in humans. For human teeth to have a healthy oral environment, enamel, dentin, cementum, and the periodontium must all develop during appropriate stages of fetal development. Primary (baby) teeth start to form between the sixth and eighth weeks in utero, and permanent teeth begin to form in the twentieth week in utero.
