An Overjet is the overlap of the teeth in the horizontal dimension. This means that the top teeth protrude over the bottom ones. It’s often called ‘overbite’ although this is not the correct term and an orthodontist would always use the term, overjet. An overjet in adults can be corrected by getting braces treatment. Your Smileworks orthodontist will be able to advise you on the best course when you come for your braces assessment. An overjet is different from an overbite. For more information, click the link to see our overbite article. Overjet is an excessive protrusion of the upper jaw resulting in a horizontal overlap of the front teeth. Overjet is the extent of horizontal (anterior-posterior) overlap of the maxillary central incisors over the mandibular central incisors.
